The following are the award categories with a brief description. The institutions and individuals have to fulfill the criteria mentioned in each category. In addition, the applications have to describe the scalability, cost effectiveness, cultural and contextual adaptability of the innovations.
1. Safe and Nutritious Food
The award will be conferred on an institution/individual for their contribution (innovative approach, processing, behavioral practices) towards improving accessibility, affordability and consumption of safe and nutritious foods and diets. Institutions/individuals working to improve food and dietary diversity with a special focus on first one thousand days of life (pregnant and lactating mothers and children under 2 years of age) are encouraged to apply.
2. Policy and Governance
The award will recognize institutions/individuals for their policy-centric, problem-solving and people-centered advocacy endeavors and contribution towards pro-poor public policies and governance aimed at improving access to safe and nutritious food, supply and services, transparency and public accountability in nutrition. Institutions/individuals such as Social Activists working at grass root levels, local government body leaders, parliamentarians, policy makers, influential voices and key champions working in public interest to promote the nutrition mission are encouraged to apply.
3. Urban Nutrition
With rising obesity and the double burden of malnutrition, the urban nutrition landscape needs special attention. Poor sanitation and hygiene and consumption of trans fat compound the non-communicable diseases burden in addition to poor nutrition, making the urban nutrition landscape complex. The award will be conferred on an institution/individual for their contribution towards improving the nutrition status among the urban poor. Institutions/individuals that have been working with displaced, trafficked population, resettled or vulnerable populations in informal settlements may apply under this category.
4. Social Enterprise
There is a growing interest in social business models and social enterprises on nutrition. The award will be conferred on a social entrepreneur/enterprise for their contribution towards maximizing the impact of nutrition interventions through their entrepreneurial vision by either leveraging the existing platforms or creating newer platforms. Institutions/individuals working in this area that impact the people at BoP (Bottom of Pyramid) are encouraged to apply.
5. Science and Technology
The award will be conferred on an institution/individual for introducing cutting-edge breakthrough research and technology solutions in the field of nutrition. Institutions/Individuals that have devised successful cost-effective, scalable and sustainable models may apply under this category.
The award will be conferred on an individual for her/his contribution (innovative approach, processing, behavioral practices) towards improving accessibility, affordability and consumption of safe and nutritious foods and diets. Individuals working to improve food and dietary diversity with a special focus on first one thousand days of life (pregnant women and lactating mothers and children under 2 years of age) are encouraged to apply.
Living Legend (Jury Award Only)
This special award will be conferred on an inspiring individual for her/his lifetime contribution in the field of nutrition. The India Nutrition Innovation Awards-2019 Jury will recognize an individual with extraordinary credentials who has compassionately worked for decades towards improving the nutritional status of communities.
