India is home to one third of the world's stunted children (Global Nutrition Report-2018). As per the National Family Health Survey (NFHS)-4 report, around 38.4 percent of children under-5 years of age are stunted in the country. Increase in childhood wasting in 10 years between NFHS-3 (2005-06) and NFHS-4 (2015-16) - from 19.8% to 21% remains a critical concern for the nation along with rising Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) and Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM). Another point of concern is that around 20.7% women and 18.6% men in the country are obese and overweight (NFHS-4). India runs the risk of an impending epidemic of obesity, diabetes and others.
